Nuworld Botanicals Cold-pressed organic Sea buckthorn & Jojoba oil

In late August, I received a few items from Nuworld Botanicals to try:

I showed this in my August accountability post.
I did not select the certain items – I described a few of my likes and dislikes, along with my skin type and worries – and left it up to Nuworld Botanicals to surprise me! Today I’m examining the first item that I’ve been testing for the past month, the Cold-pressed organic Sea buckthorn & Jojoba oil:

If you’ve been a reader of this blog, you’ll know that I love oils for all sorts of beautifying aspects: cleansing, hydrating and protecting. So how does this oil from Nuword Botanical stack up against other oils I’ve tried?

It was love at first use! You know how often you need to use a product a few times to form an opinion about it? Not with this. The first night I used this, I already knew this product was a winner.

What made this so great? The texture. It’s like silk.  It absorbs into my skin quickly, leaving my skin plumped and looking radiant!

What was in this magical golden potion?  I knew that cold-pressed oils are remarkable than hot-pressed oils considering that they maintain a lot more antioxidant and benefits. but I couldn’t find any literature for this product and there was no label on the back of the bottle. So I reached out to Natalie Cascella, the founder and president of Nuworld Botanicals for the low-down. She encouraged that this oil is a new item from their recently opened Raw Skincare Bar and shop in Oakville (for non-locals, Oakville is a lovely suburban town about 40km south of Toronto) – the oil is so new that it’s not even available for purchase online yet. Here’s what’s in this product, in Natalie’s words:

The face oil is one of our 3 house blends called “Balancing face Oil Blend”- suitable for ALL skin types.
It’s 100% natural and pure oil blend, hand-crafted with just 5 cold-pressed and organic oils as follows:
Cold-pressed organic Jojoba Oil, Seabuckthorn Oil, Rosehip Oil, Meadowfoam Oil and Safflower Oil.
It’s packed with natural anti-oxidants and vitamins A, C, E plus Omega 3, 6, 9; rich in essential fatty acids (hence the plumping of the skin).
Use on face daily – day and night. A little goes a long way!

I only need 3 drops for my whole face.
I love that it consists of simple, sincere ingredients. and they work. I’ve been having some skin issues from travelling and the weather getting cooler – the texture of my skin felt rough and dehydrated. Over time, this oil helped to restore my skin and the texture has evened out.  I often use this alone, or if I need extra moisture, I’ll apply a night cream on top so this acts as a serum.

I also noted that this oil doesn’t leave a shiny finish on the skin. This got me thinking – could I possibly use this oil for the day time? I made a decision to try mixing this into my foundation, which has been a hot appeal idea ever considering that Wayne Goss posted this video last year.

I made a decision to test it with Illamasqua Skin Base, which is a thicker texture foundation that can look cakey if not sheered out properly.

The incorporation of the Nuworld Botanicals Cold-pressed oil worked very well for this purpose too. It made the foundation apply smoothly and my skin felt hydrated all day.  I’m so happy to have tried this oil!

Pros:
• Silky texture
• absorbs quickly
• leaves skin plump
• Duftfri
• Natural, organic ingredients

Ulemper:
• Not widely available

Stash worthiness: 10/10

I always ask myself this question if I receive something for complimentary – would I repurchase this with my own money? and with the case of this oil – YES, I would! This retails for C$28 for a 30 ml bottle which I think is exceptionally reasonable. It is currently only available at the Raw Skincare Bar, but will soon be available for purchase online if you’re not able to trek to the Oakville store. I estimate a bottle would last around 6 months with daily use.

Other Nuworld Botanical products are available online nuworldbotanicals.com, or from well.ca – I’ll be examining the other products I received coming up soon.

Note: this product was sent to me complimentary of charge and I formed my own thoughts and opinions about it.

Do you use a face oil?  Have you ever used a product and fell in love with it the first time you used it?

Makeup and appeal blog Monday Poll, July 12

Mood:

Good, but after this cup of tea I must feel great, whee!

When is your bed time, and when do you get up?

Monday through Thursday I’m in bed anywhere between 10 and midnight; Fridays and Saturdays I’ll stay up a little later. as for mornings, every one except Sunday, which is my day to sleep late (’tis glorious!), the alarm goes off bright and early at 6:30.

What are you a lot of looking forward to this week?

Dinner in San Francisco with my friends Jen and Cindy, but that’s a ways away on Saturday. We’re having Peruvian food, yum!

If you have any roommates, what are they like? Do you people get along?

I live with El Hub the boy, Tabs the cat and Sushi the fish (a betta). El Hub’s pretty easy to live with — Tabs, not so much. He’s a total diva. Sushi, El Hub’s ward, is hella aggro. He’s like that roommate you lived with but hoped you’d never see.

Do you make your bed every morning?

Most of the time, and if I don’t it bugs me for the rest of the day.

What did you do last weekend?

On Saturday I checked out the legion of honor museum in SF to check out an exhibit on the Impressionists. That reminds me — the tickets were on sale, 30% off through the TravelZoo weekly mailing list. I highly recommend subscribing. best travel and enjoyment deals (even sporting events) I’ve ever used.

Then on Sunday I spent a couple of hours writing and blogging before enjoying Predators in the afternoon.

Do you ever let dishes sit in the sink for a lot more than a day?

Jeg gjør. I try to rinse them off ideal away though.

Favorite place for lunch?

It costs a king’s ransom, but I love the salad bar at whole Foods. Everything’s always so fresh, and they have a huge selection of things a lot of salad bars don’t like hummus, sushi and edamame. I vow my body goes “Ahhh” after every visit.

Antrekk:

Skinny jeans that stretch a bit (I practically live in ’em) and a white tank top with braided rope detailing on the straps.

Weekly goals:

To run at least three miles at least four times this week, to prepare two vegetarian dinners, to spend a full 20 minutes every day playing catch-up with my email.

Good mornin’, ladies. I’m sitting here at my desk sipping my morning tea and thinking about this odd dream I had last night…

I was back in high school, graduation day, and for some reason I didn’t have a cap and gown for the ceremony. When I found a gown at the last minute (no cap, though), it was thoroughly wrinkled.

ANNONSE

Instead of just throwing it on and sprinting to my seat, I desperately tried to iron it first in the school counselor’s office. moments before the MC was set to call my name on the stage, the alarm shook me awake!

Does any individual here study dreams? I’d love to hear your insights into this one. Så rart…

Well, here we are at the beginning of another week together. To complete the Monday Poll (it helps get your neurons firing), just copy the list below, and paste it with your answers scribbled into the comments.

Two ways to Win a $50 eGift Card from Sephora!

Good morning, young lady! rise and shine. It’s going to be a stunning day (even if it is cloudy outside).

Hope you had a terrific night. Mine wasn’t bad. I just stayed in, enjoyed some Bravo, and then went to bed around midnight.

ANNONSE

I went to bed, but not exactly to sleep, because El Hub was doing his imitation of a rolling pin all night long, where he spontaneously spins in place on his side of the bed. Yup, there I’d be, sawing logs, minding my own beeswax, when all of a sudden the earth would move! — and no, not because we’re in California. It was El Hub rolling in place next to me, still sound asleep somehow, which makes it even stranger and all the a lot more bothersome for me, ha!

He need to have woke me up 50 times through the night; Jeg tuller ikke. I vow he couldn’t have been still for a lot more than a few minutes at a time. and it would always start the same way, too, with a fidget, like his foot would wiggle once, followed by a long pause…but I was normally awake by this time, just lying there staring at him with wide, crazy eyes in the mørk. and then we’re rolling and rolling and rolling —

GAH! DU GJØR MEG GAL!

Anywho, I’d probably be a lot more upset if I thought he could stop, but I know he can’t. It’s an involuntary thing, some kind of sleep-rolling condition (although I don’t think that’s the scientific term).

As you can probably imagine, I’m going to require a little a lot more caffeine than normal today, so while I go inject my second cup of coffee, why don’t we initiate the day with a giveaway?

Luckily for El Hub, he earned himself some extra brownie points yesterday for making me a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch.

Mediterranean cruise – trip photos

Hey! I’m back from our cruise to the Mediterranean. It was a fantastic trip! but I’ll start out with the not so good: our flight home from Venice was delayed by over 5 hours because of a careless remark by a fellow passenger. What was an otherwise seamless transport from sea to air was marred by what the captain of the flight called “an asinine comment”. apparently during the check-in process, someone on our flight made a comment about airport safety and security – we never found out who it was or what the person said or if the person was detained afterward. We were kept in the dark about the situation until after we reboarded the plane. We had all originally boarded the flight on schedule but the plane just sat on the tarmac for over an hour until we we told that due to a “technical issue”, we had to to take all of our stuff and deplane. then we had to go through safety and security screening again – we thought it was a mechanical issue with the plane so we all joked that we were going through screening again to offer us with “something to do” while they fixed the plane. They had one screening station for the entire flight! The Italian police and fire department were called and the cargo hold thoroughly checked. Our flight was scheduled to depart at 11:30am but we did not leave until close to 5pm. It wasn’t the worst thing by any implies for us, we just got home later than we had anticipated. but for numerous fellow passengers who had connecting flights, they missed their flights and were put on the next available flight – some were rebooked for flights departing 2 days later! So, please please even if you think it’s a funny joke, don’t utter any comments about airport safety and security while in the airport / airplane. They take this stuff seriously! I said to the SO, “Imagine if this had happened when we were flying out to Venice and missed the cruise ship?” Ugh!

Here’s a picture to thank you for reading the above. It’s a shot of our cruise ship from a hilltop restaurant in Santorini, Greece.
Now, with that out of the way, onward to the good stuff!

These are mostly photos of the ports we went to – I’ll devote a separate entry to the cruise experience itself (which I’ve tentatively named “Cruising Life for type A Personalities” ). The cruise was for 7 days and our ports included: Venice (Italy), Dubrovnic (Croatia), Kusadasi / Ephesus (Turkey), Santorini (Greece), and Katakolon / Olympia (Greece). We arrived one day in advancement of the sail date to have extra time in Venice – and also recommended by our travel agent in case of a flight delay (see above!) so we actually had 2 days in Venice to explore. The weather overall was wonderful, the only day that was a complete wash-out was our first day in Venice – the downpour was so bad that Piazza San Marco (St. Mark’s Square ) was nearly empty. The following day the sun came out so we walked back to the square and saw the difference between empty vs crowded. We also experienced a short flash storm in Olympia, Greece but thank goodness it happened after our tour.

Venice, Italy

Highlights: canals, St. Mark’s Square, Doge’s Palace

Piazza San Marco (St. Mark’s Square)
Eating pistachio and stracciatella gelato from a shop right in St. Mark’s Square.
One of the numerous awe-inspiring grand rooms inside Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace). Every surface is covered in ornate paintings / decorations.
View from inside the Bridge of Sighs.

Dubrovnik, Kroatia

Highlights: Walled City, medieval fortresses, game of Thrones

The weather was much warmer than we expected and so clear that we could see for miles.

This is still mainly a charm blog! I rocked the Essie Gel Couture polish in Pinned Up for the trip – it wore amazingly well, as expected. Not a chip and I wore it for 12 days in total.

Inside the Walled City – we are so impressed at the polished stone ground, they’re reflective and probably slick when it rains.
Ephesus, Turkey

Highlights: house of Mary, library of Celsus, temple of Hadrian, great Theatre

There is a small house which has been confirmed as the last place where Virgin Mary lived before she died (no pictures allowed of the interior – it is very easy and small). Behind the house there are water spouts where visitors can collect holy water.
This site boasts one of the best preserved Greek and Roman ruins. It’s like going back in time and showcases marble streets, a library, and a grand stadium.

I’m not going to post too numerous pictures of my visit to Ephesus – I’ll save that for a detail post on the organized group trip in a cross over collab post with Joyce of local girl foreign Land coming up in early October!

Santorini, Hellas

Highlights: Firá, Catholic Cathedral of Fira, Archaeological Museum

Eating freshly grilled squid / calamari – and Greek salad, of course.

Tip for Santorini – take the cable television cars up but walk down the path to get back to the port. The line-ups for the cable television cars are crazy. The path is beautiful but view out for runaway donkeys and their poop!
Olympia, Greece

Highlights: site of original Olympic Games, temple of Hera, Archaeological museum of Olympia

The site of the original Olympic games was much different than we had imagined in our minds – it was much greener than we expected.
And many of the buildings were pretty much gone except for a few pillars here and there – a lot of imagination was required here.
Our trip guide was able to offer a lot of historical information on how the structures would have looked, and what functions they served.

We were practically ready to head back to the ship when we had a flash storm, but it resulted the most beautiful sunset that evening:

This is probably one of my preferred shots of the whole trip and is now my phone wallpaper.
If forced to choose, our preferred place was Santorini, which was a surprise because we didn’t have huge expectations like we did for Dubrovnik (don’t get me wrong, we still loved Dubrovnik) – going to Santorini made us promise to return to Greece to even more explore the country. have you been to any of these places?

PS. I know this question will be asked, I used Canon Powershot SX610, a point and shoot camera, for all the photos.

PPS. I’ve been really jet lagged for the past few days (6 hr difference) but I’ve started getting back into reading blogs. I’ve discovered a lot of my comments aren’t showing up on your blogs and I think they’re going into your spam folders – please take a moment to check. I guess WordPress doesn’t recognize me anymore being away on vacation!

PPPS. yes I purchased some makeup on the trip. I’ll do a haul post next week!

Hot Roller Hijinks: Volume One

Fire tonn o ‘vaskeri, akkurat her kommer jeg!

Hva er du like mye som i dag?
